This unit is taught during Spring 2.
There are 5 elements to movement, these are; Stillness, turn, travel, jump and gesture. Below is an outline of what the different year groups are doing in the unit.
Year 3
In this unit children perform sequences, focusing on creating, adapting and linking a range of actions. These are inspired by a variety of subjects. They work with a partner and in small groups. Many themes are used this year including rollercoasters, ghosts and exploring making a range of shapes (or motifs).
Year 4
In this unit children focus on creating characters and narrative through movement and gesture. They gain inspiration from a range of subjects, and work in pairs and small groups. The subject this year has been on Robots and Space.
Year 5
In this unit children learn different styles and focus on creating sequences with other people. They create, perform and watch sequences in a range of styles, working with partners and groups.
Year 6
In this unit children will focus on using different visual images as the starting point for composing, performing and watching sequences. This year the children have worked from the Haka, a New Zealand tradition adopted by the New Zealand Rugby team (the all blacks) who perform the sequence before each game as a mark of respect for their opponents.
